This week’s #CaughtOnBlackVue submission comes from a BlackVue user who captured a significant multi-vehicle collision while driving in heavy freeway traffic.
Identifying the Hazard
Prior to the incident, the driver noticed that the vehicle directly in front had malfunctioning brake lights. In response, they increased the gap between their car and the vehicle ahead to allow for more reaction time.
The Evasive Maneuver
When traffic came to a sudden halt due to an accident further up the road, the lack of brake lights on the car ahead made the rapid deceleration difficult to gauge. Realizing they could not stop in time to avoid a rear-end collision, the BlackVue user successfully steered onto the shoulder.
The Chain Reaction
While the user cleared the lane safely, the driver behind them was unable to react in time. That vehicle struck the car with the faulty lights, triggering a chain reaction. In total, six cars were involved in the collision. The BlackVue user was the only driver in the immediate sequence to escape the pileup.
The Outcome
According to the submitter, no major injuries were reported at the scene.
