Choosing a Cloud-connected dash cam changes everything. It elevates your driving experience by offering ultimate peace of mind—allowing you to check on your vehicle in real-time via Remote Live View, receive Instant Crash Notifications, and track your car’s location from anywhere in the world.
But with great connectivity comes a natural question: How is my privacy protected? At BlackVue, protecting user privacy and providing transparent user control over connected features are fundamental principles of our product design.
We understand that some customers may have questions or concerns regarding the Broadcast feature, which lets users share their dash cam location and optionally Live View with the BlackVue user community. Broadcast was designed as an optional community-sharing feature, not as the default way to access your dash cam remotely.
We have carefully reviewed the feature and would like to clarify how it operates, as well as the additional measures we are introducing to further enhance transparency and user control.
The BlackVue Broadcast feature (previously referred to as Live Broadcast) is an optional feature that is disabled by default. It does not operate unless the user explicitly chooses to enable it. In addition, Broadcast is available only when several requirements are met, including:
- A registered BlackVue Cloud account
- A compatible LTE-enabled device
- An active cellular data connection
- Explicit user activation of the Broadcast feature
Today, let’s take a look at BlackVue Cloud’s built-in privacy features and how you can easily customize them to fit your needs.
Private by Design: Your Data, Your Control
When you first connect your dash cam to BlackVue Cloud, the system automatically sets your privacy configurations to Private.
This means your video footage, location data, and driving routes stay exactly where they belong—safely stored on your local microSD card. No public sharing or unauthorized remote access is enabled out of the box. You can enjoy the powerful features of a Cloud dash cam knowing your personal data remains 100% confidential.
Quick Guide: How to Customize Your Privacy Settings
Updating your privacy settings takes just a few steps in the BlackVue App:
- Open the BlackVue App and select your camera.
- Tap “More” and Navigate to “Camera Settings.”
- Select “GPS Access & Broadcast” (first option in the list)
- Under the heading “Broadcast” confirm whether the toggle is switched to OFF (Default setting).
Note that the Allow GPS Access option is strictly for you to see your own dash cam’s location on the Map View so you can safely keep it ON.
💡 Enhanced User Consent (Double Opt-in): Users are now required to confirm their intention each time they enable the Broadcast feature.

How to Check Your Broadcast Status
- The Camera List: A red badge at the top shows exactly which devices are broadcasting, and a small red dot appears on each live camera’s card so you can spot them instantly.
- The Map View: clearly indicates whether the user’s camera is currently broadcasting.

NOTE:
If you have never connected your BlackVue dash cam to BlackVue Cloud, the GPS Access and Broadcast menu will appear greyed out as seen below:

This means your dash cam is not sharing its location at all.
